Returning Home

Hi Everyone

We arrive home on Hawaiian Airlines flight HA 445 at 2145 on July 17th – we have a bus picking us up at the Airport to take us back to TGS and should be there around 2245 to 2300.

We are off out to enjoy our last morning – the students have the last of their bonus money that i gave them last night for breakfast this morning.

Water Park and Walkabouts

Aloha Everyone,

Yesterday was Waterpark day. We spent the day sliding and swimming floating on the lazy river or just lazing by the pool.

When we got home we went out and took a walk around the local area looking at the new developments. We looked at some new tourist developments and took a walk through the Royal Hawaiian center and the Moana Surfrider hotel.

Today we head out to Hanauma Bay to snorkel with the tropical fish and then we head to Pearl harbor which has been closed to the public because of the RIMPAC naval exercises.

There is a huge number of army and navy personnel around the area because of the exercises with some army soldiers staying in our hotel.

I have added more photos to the hawaii set on flickr at FLICKR HAWAII

Shopping day !

Aloha Everyone,

Today was shopping day.

Some stayed 3 hours at the outlet shops and some stayed 6 !

Lots of gifts were purchased and we saw the new building and extensions that are occurring at the outlet mall. We have seen lots of new building projects and I have been telling the students about the new developments that are happening in the area.

We have been on a few walking tours to learn about the history of the area and hopefully some learning has occurred !

Tomorrow is volcano day for some of us and the others are doing a tour of the historic and important sites of Honolulu. they will then go to either the zoo or the aquarium ( one of the oldest in the USA ).

The Volcano group leave at 6am and return at 10:30pm so it will be a big day on the road seeing the sights of the big island.

I might not be on the blog tomorrow night, depends on what time we arrive back at the accommodation.

Best regards

Mr Smith

Day 2 – The big tour of the Island

Today we did our big tour of the island, we saw lots of points of interest along the way.

We saw Diamond head again ,The marine sanctuary at Hanauma bay ( we will return there soon)  the ‘from here to eternity’ beach, the blowhole, the Polynesian cultural center, the large Mormon Temple and University, Taco Bell, the famous north shore beaches, historic Haleiwa town, we then had a swim before heading off to the Dole Pineapple plantation…. Whew what a day.

We then headed out to the big mall for dinner and then a bit of shopping before catching the free trolley bus home !

Tomorrow is the big day of shopping or a small shop and a laze by the pool.

30 days to go !

Aloha Parents and Students.

As of today it is only 30 days till we leave for Hawaii !
If you have not given me a new passport copy (if yours has been updated) please do so.
You must have your ESTA done by the end of this week so that we are all able to get into Hawaii on arrival.
Payments
This week your final installment of $500 should be paid then the last $200 needs to be paid by the end of the month.
The total cost of the trip is $3200. ($3550 if you are going to the big island)
Meeting
We will have a pre trip meeting for parents and students on 1st July at 6:30pm in the school library. At least one parent and their student need to be here to go over the expectations and organisation of the trip.
Glasses
If you wear glasses and cannot do without them please ensure you have a spare pair or a copy of your prescription information in case they get lost/broken and need to be replaced ( this happened last year )
Contact info
I will post a contact phone number on the blog tgshawaii.wordpress.com once we arrive.
I will also update the blog each night.
Phones and Wifi
There is free wifi in the hotel so students will be able to use skype/facetime/viber to be in contact. This also means that Data (and push notifications) can be switched off on smartphones once we are about to board the plane.
Money.
I have found in the past that taking some cash and then taking more out once we are there has been the best way if you don’t want to take your whole budget in cash. Cash can be left in the teachers room safes in a named bag.
Things to get organised this month.
2 x Plug adapter and 4 plug multi board for each room (students need to decide who will get them for their room)
Sort out roaming on your cellphone (and data) or decide to get a pre pay sim with USA number when we arrive.
Travel insurance organised. ( and any medication you need ) House of travel can do travel insurance for our group for $140 each ( please let me know if you want to order this and i will do a group purchase )
Decide how you are taking money and order your US dollars
If you have any further questions, please get in touch.
